Hepa Filters |
Replacement and transportation of HEPA-FILTERS from safety workbenches and similar ventilated locations. |
|
| According to an annex to the draft of the performance standards for microbiological safety cabinets (Aug. 96), HEPA filters from safety workbenches cannot be considered harmless even after disinfection with a gaseous disinfectant. The filters cannot be transported as regular waste-products. They should be either autoclaved or burned. This concern for microbiological safety is even more relevant when dealing with filters from workbenches where chemicals like cytostatics are used. Removal and transportation of these filters should be left to trained personel. | ![]() |

So far it is not possible in the Netherlands to incinerate
filters larger than 60 x 60 cm in ovens. At present ELVI-Air is developing a shredder
capable of safely reducing HEPA filters larger than 60 x 60 cm to sizes suitable for
transportation and burning at Waste Disposal Rijnmond (NL).
Filterexchange by means of the safe-change bag. |
